Tokosa food festival attracted an overwhelming number last year. Maybe because it was the first edition. The second edition however, which happened last Saturday, saw few people make their way to Legends Rugby Grounds.
A number of factors could be attributed to the small turn up; there was the earlier down pour, and then few people who had made their way to the venue were seen making endless trips to check out the football match between KCCA and Sadolin just next door. This was the crowning moment of the season.
The crowd had a taste of the best and rare cuisines. They participated in baking lessons, bucket challenge, egg on spoon challenge and children races. They were also seen to be enjoying the performances on stage.
There were cooking competitions but the most interesting was the couple cook off that had KFM’s Brian Mulondo and his wife Manuella take on three other couples. They were both humorous, playful and knew their ways around the kitchen. They came up with a meal called “Mulondo extravaganza”. But they were not the winners, as Sufyian Kibbs and Habbiba Nakanwagi were crowned the winners with their “Rrrrr” meal that impressed the judges.
On stage, Lydia Jazmine was the first to perform and her “Guno omukwano”, “Mwagara biriyo” and “Same way” songs did little to impress the small audience. It was Maurice Kirya who worked them up but it had to involve a lesser known lady from the audience to really get the attention of the people. Maurice invited her on stage and they both collaborated on his “Wooye” song. It was like magic. He went on to sample his latest track that he says he had just gotten out of studio and “Busaabala”.
Despite the low turn up, Kampala Food Network’s Vivienne Adala said the event was organised better this time round. “I commend the organisers of the event because unlike last year, the show has been well organised. I have sold out all my food at the KFN stall and its more engaging,” she said. All proceeds went to Bless A Child combination.
