Ideally when someone is awarded, all that runs in your head is where you will place your accolade. Well, looks like that is far from the case for winners at the VIGA awards which recognise top players in the gospel industry.
At the fifth edition of the awards last Saturday, as artistes received their accolades, a few people did not realise that the accolades were later removed from some of the artistes and given to the next winners in line.
This would have gone unnoticed if only singer Levixone did not win and award that night. When he was announced winner of Inspirational song of the year for Save a Life. After giving his acceptance speech, Levixone who shared a table with this reporter wondered why the award was not labeled. Just as he complained, one of the ushers approached the table and asked for the award, claiming his real award had delayed in Nairobi and it would be ready on Monday. Levixone, who was now furious refused to hand back the award, claiming it was the fourth time they were doing this. “I have won the VIGA Awards four times but surprisingly I don’t have any award at home. They keep giving me the same excuse,” Levixone said.
He later handed back the award. When we called Levixone on Monday, he had not received his award as promised. At the event, there were only about 10 awards out of the 30 categories. And we would think gospel awards would be a little more honest!
