What’s behind the celebrity haircuts?

hair

In Uganda, celebrities set the trends; when a celebrity does a certain hairdo, a number of his or her fans always copy the styles. The fans do this because most of them believe that the celebrities are always up-to-date with modern trends.

Towards the end of last year, a number of celebrities in Uganda were chopping off their hair with some going completely bald whereas others were chopping part of their hair, branding it their style and a new trend.

The goodlyfe singer Mowzey Radio was the first to cut off his hair going completely bald. Chameleone followed, then singer Iryn Namubiru showed up at her concert with one side of her head shaven. Bukedde TV’s Flavia Namulindwa, songbird Rema Namakula and Uganda’s self-proclaimed  ‘Big size’ Bebe Cool, have also shaved part of their hair.

The latest celeb to pick on the trend is Helen Lukoma an actress and fashion designer who took to the saloon and shaved off her hair and later on posted a photo of her new look which she captioned  ‘new years’ look’.

“It’s a new year, letting go, opening new doors,” read a post on her social media page.

Lukoma’s photo attracted a number of comments from her fans as the majority applauded her look calling it a perfect one for 2017.

“Wow, that’s my queen bee, I know you are always pretty, with or without hair,” posted Claire Lubowa.

A number of people have commented that the celebrities are doing this as a way of trying to look younger.

“Iryn, your hairdo makes you look younger and fresh, I’m in love with it, “posted Shifra Lean on the singer’s Facebook wall.

Others say the new trend of cutting hair is a way of rebranding. When Singer Mowzey chopped off his hair, a number of his fans commended his new hair style saying it makes him look a better person.

We wonder who will be next.
