Celebrities sweat it out for charity

Good cause: At the weekend, radio and TV personalities, artistes and other celebrities came together for a soccer match with the aim of collecting funds for the Dora Mwima charity foundation.

You have seen them performing, you have seen them present programmes on TV, laughed at their jokes, danced to their music and even heard them on radio, but last Saturday evening at Kabira Country Club, local celebrities took to the a charity football challenge.
Spearheaded by Dora Mwima, a former Miss Uganda 2008/9 through her ‘Dora Mwima foundation, the event will see expectant mothers get access to health facilities and reduce maternal mortality in Uganda using Mama pots which are three wheeled motorcycles.
This third edition brought together celebrities including artistes, models, deejays, comedians, promoters and producers among others playing against each other in a football match.
They were divided in two teams. Green which had celebrities like Alex Muhangi, Esco star, Vince Musisi, Bushington, Rajiv Ruparelia, MP Muhammad Nsereko, A Pass, Dj Cricio, Mckenzie( Captian), Dj Micheal and KFM’s Abdu Wasike among others versing Team White that had Keko, Jack Pemba, Maurice Kirya, Dj Aludha, Diggy Baur, Emmanuel Okwi, Aly Alibhai (Captain), Emmanuel Okwi, KS Alpha and special guest Alikiba among others.
Team White defeated Team Green with four goals to one and the scorers included Jack Pemba, Alikiba, Diggy Baur and Ks Alpha while Esco scored the consolation for Team Green.
They were awarded with a trophy and each team member received a certificate and a medal for their participation.
Individual trophies were also given out to excellent performers who included Esco for best goal, Alex Muhangi getting the most disciplined player and Alikiba receiving the best player award.
Besides the fun, Shs8.5m was collected through the gate collections and auctioning of the ball that was signed on by all the players. It was given to MP Nsereko after both Pemba and Rajiv bought it at shs1million each.
A single Mama Pot goes for Shs9m but with the celebrities involved in this cause, at least two will be bought to save lives in rural Uganda.
