Alikiba proves his worth at Blankets and Wine Kampala

When it was announced that Alikiba was to headline the last Blankets and Wine event this year, many people were skeptical. Reason being that the artiste has few hits and that he’s not the biggest musician in Tanzania right now.

They were all surprised as he proved them wrong last Sunday at cricket oval during the 15^th edition of the quarterly event.

The Tanzanian musician proved how good he is not only in a charity football match a day to the event, by scoring a goal but also in music.

When he kicked off his performance at 9pm, it was a case of ‘who could jump highest, who could bend lowest, who could shake best and who could scream louder. On the other hand, the artiste kept wiggling his waist on several songs he did and also kept saluting the audience every time they showed their appreciation.

He did almost all the songs Ugandans know and even did others that we are not conversant with. “Cinderella”, “Nakshi Nakshi” “Usiniseme” “Dushelele” “Single Boy” are among those he did during his first session before returning with “Mwana” “Aje” “Chekecha cheketua” among others during the last bit of his action.

The event also had Ugandan acts displaying their vocal abilities and first on stage was Jemimah Sanyu whose energetic performance was witnessed by a few because she performed early.

 Multi-instrumentalist Giovanni Kiyingi who not only sang but also played instruments like the adungu and mandida and then Mith, a Hip Hop artiste who made the crowd get on their feet with his rhymes.

Different from the other two, Mith’s performance was interactive as his band backed him up.

Blankets and Wine is a quarterly, picnic style music festival that can be dubbed as a family day out with several artistes headlining the day’s performance.
