The series which stopped airing after their equipment was stolen was among the list of nominees for the AMVCAs that was released on December 14, 2016, at the Intercontinental Hotel in Lagos, Nigeria.

Earlier in the year, unknown individuals broke into the studios of Kinetic Management Group and Savannah Moon productions and stole all the episodes that were pre-recorded along with other equipment. This happened after only two episodes had been aired.

Regardless of the mishaps that happened, the series has been nominated in the category of Best Television Series alongside Jenifa’s Diary, Sokhulu and Partners Season 3, Duplicity, Beyond Your Sight: The Police Story.

The series is a Ugandan television drama-mystery series created by Nana Kagga Macpherson, directed by Joseph Kitsha Kyasi and Tosh Gitonga and is currently being produced by 40 Plus Productions.

The series stars mainly Ugandan celebrities in the lead roles such as Flavia Tumusiime, Cedric Babu Ndilima, Natasha Sinayobye, Gaetano Kagwa, Hellen Lukoma, Rabadaba, Salvador Idringi, and Susan Naava.Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) is an annual presentation by Multichoice, recognising outstanding achievement in television and film, voted on by the general public. And while the makers of Beneath the Lies should be congratulated on this milestone, it is strange that they could have been nominated after airing only two episodes. Either they know something we don’t, or the two episodes is the stuff of Hollywood.

The winners of the 2017 edition will be announced and handed their accolades at the awards ceremony slated for March 2017.
