The fifth edition of the Victoria Gospel Academy Awards (Viga) which recognises great performers in the gospel music industry are set to happen in the second week of January. What’s perturbing though is that top gospel artistes are nowhere on the nomination list. I mean, what is gospel music without mentioning Levixone, Pr Wilson Bugembe, Dangelo Busulwa and Judith Babirye? When Sqoop spoke to Levixone, who was the Artiste of the Year in the last Viga awards, he also expressed shock: “I think the organisers of the awards are trying to promote young gospel artistes using these awards.”
Our efforts to reach Nicholas Nyombi aka Prince Nick the brains behind the awards for a comment on this were futile as he failed to pick our repeated calls. Earlier when we had talked to Nyombi, he said the awards, set for January 14, will run under the theme United in ministry for social Transformation.
