Four One One

Top artistes whose stars remained dim last year

bobi

Last year was – different, as far as the Ugandan music industry is concerned. The artistes that we have always seen doing well are the ones that we saw limping after falling from the top. Here are some whose stars didn’t shine bright last year and were clearly outshone.

Bobi Wine

Besides having a hit song titled Aidah and perhaps having his Busabaala concert sold out, we think that Bobi Wine will live to see 2016 as a bad year when it comes to music. In the past, Bobi Wine has always been competitive, releasing hit song after the other. But last year he was quiet on that front. He seems to have focused more on business than music leaving his longtime nemesis Bebe Cool to take him on. And boy has Bebe Cool whipped him on the front.

Jose Chameleone

Chameleone

Apart from Agatako which is really Rwandese Singer DJ Pius’ song, Dr Jose Chameleon has not been the Chameleone we know, full of ideas and in the news day in day out. Even with no music in a year, Chameleon would still confuse the people with different stunts but last year, he failed on both sides. No good music, and no public stunts.

Chameleone has several songs but they have not played in many places as has happened before. The singing doctor has songs like Sweet Banana, Hallo featuring Radio and Weasel, Omusamaliya and Double Trouble. These have all failed to define Chameleone who has always been a darling to many.

Radio and Weasel

Could we blame Radio and Weasel for leaving Jeff Kiwa or we shouldn’t be so fast to judge them? For the seven years Radio and Weasel worked with Jeff Kiwa under Goodlyfe, we danced to songs like Bread and Butter, Zuena, Nakudata and Lwaki onumya among others. It got slowly boring when they took on failed singer Chagga as their manager; their songs are nowadays the usual songs. Worse still, last year they did not them come of age as they remained in the middle of nowhere as though they were new artistes on the block trying to make their way to the top.

Julianna Kanyomozi

Juliana Kanyomozi

If we were following a particular list then we would put Julianna Kanyomozi in the first spot because she was musically dead last year. From what we know, Julianna only recorded a song or two in 2016 and the most notable one being Engule featuring Radio and Weasel which was not even a hit. It’s like she is not even in the country. A pity really because she has been one of the most inspiring and loved female artistes.
