In the years gone by, deejaying was not treated as a big deal at social events. But that is first changing as disc spinners have proved that they have earned their slot on the entertainment radar.
To that effect, a number of deejays have organised events to showcase their talent with great success.
It all started with the duo of DJ Roja and SlickStuart who organised the Mixtape party three times in a row and attracted crowds. Other deejays like Nimrod and Shiru have also put up impressive shows.
Last week, Laftaz Lounge in Centenary Park was the place to be for the unveiling of Ramathan Shafik also known as DJ Fikie. The event which started at about 8pm was curtain raised by different artistes such as Roden Y, B2C, Pallaso, Fik Fameika, Fefe Busi and Gravity Omutujju among others.
DJ Fikie is not new on the social radar; he spins discs for WBS TV, Laftaz Lounge and Dejavu Bar in Kansanga among others. DJ Shiru who mentored Fikie into the deejaying business, was at the show and he spinned discs for about an hour before DJ Fickie taking over.
When the man of the night, 26-year-old DJ Fikie took to the stage, he played mostly Ugandan music. Some of the songs that worked the audience included Jennifer by Mozey Radio, Bada by Bobi Wine, Funtula by Bebe Cool and Mama Mia by Chameleone among others.
By the time the curtains were drawn, revellers were full of praises of the disc spinner.
