A source conversant with the goings-on at Uganda Broadcasting Corporation last week came to our desk with ‘juicy’ gossip. The source said Abbey Rafsanjan, or Raf, the UBC spokesperson, had carried out his last assignment for the national broadcaster last week when he called journalists to witness the grand opening of the station’s new studios.
According to the insider, there has been an ongoing reshuffle at UBC as the TV station is on a cost-cutting mission.
“What is currently happening at UBC is worsening each day that goes by. I can believe all staff at UBC were paid half of last month’s salary as most of the people were laid off,” our source said, adding that among those laid off was Raf. On Wednesday evening, however, Raf posted on Facebook that UBC would show, live the UEFA Champions League game between Arsenal and Ludogorets and then the US Presidential Debate at 3am. We contacted him and scoffed at the source.
“I am working. And I am working as the Public Relations Officer of Uganda Broadcasting Corporation. Anyone who doubts that can come to my office any time and we’ve a cup of tea,” he said.
We coming for that cup of tea Raf.
