Leah Kagasa, a 21 year old student from Makerere University Business School who represented Tooro region in the two months search for Miss Uganda 2016 was crowned this year’s winner. This was at a grand finale that took place at Kampala Serena Hotel’s Victoria Hall last Saturday and as overall winner, she also took home a brand new Toyota Will Vs.
The second runner up was Ruth Ricky Mutoni from Kanungu district as Charlotte Kyohairwe was crowned 1st runner up. As Miss Uganda 2016/17, Kagasa will represent Uganda at the Miss Uganda world which will take place in US this December.
Before the crowning, the 21 girls took to the stage to personally introduce themselves to the crowd and the judges before a video of their life during boot camp was played on the gigantic screens. The girls were then taken to the hardest part of the contest which was the Q and A session. Many were lucky as the questions seemed easy for them as others were unfortunate that almost all the hard questions fell on them and these made them misfire several times thus loosing points.
Kagasa unlike the other contestants was so confident, well composed and straight to the point and according to the judges it was one of the reasons she emerged winner.
At the event, Hon Cecilia Ogwal who was Miss Uganda in 1969 was invited on stage as the outgoing Miss Uganda Zahara Nakiyaga was handing over the sash and Tiara to Kagasa. She encourage the girls to keep good morals as Beauty Queens and at the same time consoled those who didn’t go through not to worry because it wasn’t the end of the road for them.
The event couldn’t go without entertainment as there were performances from the upcoming duo of Kent and Floss and Naava Grey. The event ended at around 2am.
