The Shallows is one of those movies best enjoyed when watched on a big screen. It is a highly-captivating movie that literally keeps you on the edge of your seat. It is a survival thriller. You will love it!
The movie is about a medical student, Nancy (Blake Lively), who goes to a secluded beach whose name she does not even know. It is the same beach that her late mother went to when she was pregnant with her. Nancy is going through a rough time and she needs a connection to her mother.
She goes surfing and really enjoys herself. But for the viewer, the waves are so strong that you fear she will drown each time she is immersed in water. When she goes for her last surf for the day, she sees a carcass of a whale and just as she is wondering what could have happened to it, a shark attacks and bites her leg. She manages to swim to a rock away from the shark. There, it cannot reach her. That would be great if the rock was not so many kilometres away from the shore. Everything in her is put to test as she tries to stay alive despite the cold, deep wound and fear of the shark.
There are only a handful of characters in this movie. The settings are also few. No wonder the movie’s budget is pretty low, totaling to $17m. This movie shows just how much Blake Lively has grown as an actress. She is absolutely impressive in this one. In unrelated news, how do women like her manage to look that hot even after giving birth?
