Who ever thought that Madina Nalwanga, the main character in Queen of Katwe movie would turn heads at a big ceremony? Well, the Ugandan budding actress is abroad and was yesterday afternoon on a big stage in Canada for the premier of the movie in which she stared in as chess champion, Phiona Mutesi.
Nalwanga attended the premier alongside another Ugandan actor Martin Kibanza, film director Mira Nair and popular actors, Lupita Nyong’o and David Oyelowo.
The event held at the Roy Thompson Hall in Toronto during the film festival was attended by the cast, filmmakers and real life stars and the red carpet affair first saw the cast getting photo moments before retiring for a party thereafter.
Queen of Katwe which will officially be premiering in Uganda next month is based on the vibrant true story of a young girl from the streets of Uganda whose world rapidly changes when she is introduced to the game of chess.
