wadawa star: After his hit song Pressure Ya Love with Walden, Chozen seemed to disappear from the music scene. Many could have written him off as a one hit wonder, but his song Wadawa with Sheebah saw his resurrection. The track has ruled the airwaves and clubs for months and now the singer is signed to Sheebah’s Team No Sleep record label. Chozen met his fan Andre and they talked his music journey.
Who is Chozen?
Chozen is a humble and hardworking person. That is how I would describe myself, but I think it is you in a better position to describe me.
What is your real name and why do you use Chozen for a stage name?
My real name is Patrick Musasizi and I chose the name Chozen based on things that have been happening in my life. Because I am a believer, I felt I was the chosen one by God, going by the blessings I have been getting in my life. I just twisted it a little bit to come up with Chozen.
Why then did you choose music for a career instead of being in church?
I chose music because I have the talent and most importantly because I have passion for it.
How did your singing career start?
I started doing music in school and church choirs. I participated in different singing school competitions and in my Senior Six vacation, I recorded my first song Pressure Ya Love alongside Walden. This was the beginning of my music career.
Rumour has it that you and Walden dated for a long time before you found out that you are actually related. How true is this and what is your relationship with her?
No. We have never dated. Just because people saw us doing songs together they started speculating that we were dating. She is my cousin and I would never date someone I am related to.
How would you describe your style of music?
I call it positive and sweet music in different styles, such as Afro beat, zouk with RnB.
You had been away for a while, which country had you travelled to and what had you gone to do there?
I had gone to England for studies.
And why did you decide to return?
I chose to return because I had finished my course and also because I had a career in music to follow. I came back to settle.
Besides Pressure Ya Love, Malo and Wadawa, what other songs do you have?
I have new songs such as Byebyo, Byakyalo and Kateteteyi with Fefe Busy
Why did you sign up with Team No Sleep?
It is with no doubt that Team No Sleep is a winning team. This is one record label where success is guaranteed. TNS defines a true record label and it is a pleasure that I signed with them.
They have quite a number of artistes on their hands. What are they doing for your career?
A lot is already happening and all I can say is that keep your eyes and ears open.
How do you define your style of music?
I sing Afro beat, R&B, Zouk and Ragga.
