When you hear “Goat and Kachumbari Pop Up”, what comes to your mind is probably meat and other ingredients for a barbeque. But last Saturday’s event at Yasigi Beer Garden in Kampala was nothing related to that as it was just a platform for young entrepreneurs to exhibit their products.
Goat and Kachumbari Pop Up was a name created to raise eyebrows and curiosity to draw attention to the event.
“So the title has nothing to do with the content,” said the organiser of this event we identified as Templa.
The two-day event, held on Friday from 5pm to 9pm and on Saturday from mid-day to 9pm, had exhibitors such as Zanaa, Chloe’s Closet, Mikazi, Flock of Birds, Gash Glam, Alzira’s Shuka and Biika, among others. They all showcased different items like clothes, art pieces, make up, shades and so on.
Every exhibitor sold their items at prices they felt were convenient for the customers and themselves, some even sold at a discount perhaps because there was no charge for the exhibition.
Unlike other shops or exhibitions, this one was up to the exhibitors to push it, market it and make money out of it.
Yasigi only provided the venue so it was all about one’s marketing strategy to pull it off at the end of the day.
The Goat and Kachumbari Pop Up’s goal is “to consistently develop, share and inspire the unique and diverse cultural experiences inspired by the power of collaboration and it’s a platform for young creatives to engage each other and collaborate as well as socialise”.
It happens every first weekend of the month at Yasigi. Last week’s event was the second edition.
