Salvado explains the birth of ‘Africa laughs’

salvado
Last year, Salvado didn’t hold his annual ‘Africa laughs’ show because he was concentrating on ‘Man from Ombokoro’ event. After a year’s break, the comedian has gone back to the drawing board and announced the date for the highly anticipated show.
The international star-studded comedy show will be held on the August 26 at Kampala Serena Hotel.
Salvado said the idea was based on the fact that Africa has a lot of talent when it comes to comedy but getting rib crackers from other countries is so expensive they decided to do it ‘probono’ – each supports the other irrespective of the country.
“We came up with the Idea of Africa Laughs in 2013 at Stand Up Africa in South Africa. However, since it’s an expensive venture we decided to help each other – Scratch my back I scratch yours. Perform at my show and I will perform at your show for free,” Salvado said. The lineup of comedians include Arthur Nkusi (Rwanda), Eddie Kadi from Congo, Bovi from Nigeria, Ndumiso Lindi (South Africa), Carl Joshua N’Cube (Zimbabwe) and Eric Omondi (Kenya).
Besides ‘Africa laughs’ in Uganda, the movement also gave birth to shows like ‘The Presidents of L’Africa’ in Malawi, ‘Lord of the Ribs’ in Nigeria, ‘Africa United’ in Zimbabwe and ‘Laugh Festival’ in Kenya.
