It’s not every day that you will find an over 60-year-old interested in music but Ms Deborah R. Malac, the US Ambassador to Uganda is one of those.
When asked where she hangs out, she politely answered that her age can’t permit her to do so but she gets to groove every time a nice song is played. “I’m too old to be hanging out but I will say this, I have a reputation of being a dancing ambassador – and on my last assignment, anytime the music was played, you would find me dancing… I have done that so far on many occasions here and I will continue to do that. When I hear good music, I can’t help myself,” she said.
Malac was last month pictured in Daily Monitor grooving ‘packa chini’ during America’s Independence Day celebrations at the Embassy.
With just six months in her new role, the former U.S. Ambassador to Liberia has already shown interest in the Ugandan music industry, working closely with Bobi Wine and Eddy Kenzo on different projects. She says she hopes to meet and work with more artistes. “I’m very new here but I obviously know Bobi Wine and Eddy Kenzo. They are the ones I’ve met so far and I’ve got so many more to meet. I’m looking forward to having the chance to become familiar with even more Ugandan musicians,” she said.
