The nightlife: Because she enjoys gatherings, Shillo thought opening up a bar business would be like living her dream everyday. With returns of Shs5m a month, looks like the business looks good.

What is the nature of your work?
I own a bar.

What inspired you to get into bar business?
I love bringing people together and seeing them happy makes me feel relaxed and at peace.

What is the name of your bar?
It’s called ‘The bleak’.

Why did you choose that name?
Bleak is a type of fish and there is a saying that goes; ‘drink like a fish’. So I want my clients to drink like fish.

For how long has your bar been in existence?
It is a new bar. We opened in March this year.

Where is this bar located?
In Kyaliwajjala as you are heading to Quality Shopping Centre.

Why that location?
I looked around different suburbs near town and Kyaliwajala seemed convenient, it has a number of party-goers and it is accessible.

What services do you offer?
We offer lunch, we have a band every last Friday of the month, comedy night, we host kasiki, meetings, corporate parties and a we have a Lagos night coming soon.

How much are the drinks at your bar?
Sodas are Shs2,000 while beers cost Shs3,500

What are your peak working days?
Wednesday bucket night because five beers cost Shs15,000, then Friday because it is oldies night and Saturdays because we host guest DJs. But we are open seven days a week.

How much returns do you make in a month?
I make about Shs5m a month minus expenses.
