Every Christian’s hope is that on that day when they die, they will go to heaven. But just like sometimes people wonder if God really exists, especially when bad things happen to them or other people they consider to be good, some Christians doubt that heaven exists.
So this movie sets out to bring an end to those doubts. It is based on the real life of Pastor Don Piper (Hayden Christensen) who was involved in a terrible accident, died and “tasted” the joy of being in heaven. Just when he thought he was about to “settle in”, he was brought back to life. On earth, Don had to endure unbearable pain as doctors tried to save his leg from being amputated.
He was not amused that God brought him back to earth to undergo all the pain after giving him a peek into heaven. Despite all the love around him, he was not willing to fight to stay alive and would even refuse to breathe.
But God had a purpose for him — to testify that heaven indeed existed so he used different people to fight for his life. In the end, he had to give in and fight. And now he travels the world telling people about heaven. A book in the same name is one of his ways of doing it. This movie does give important food for thought — which is, if you were to die today, would you go to heaven?
