With more than 8,000 workers, Ruparelia Group is certainly one of the biggest employer of youth in Uganda. It is upon this background that Youth Power Research (YPR), a group emanated from 150 WhatsApp groups with an aim of joining efforts with government and private businessmen to fight unemployment, awarded Rajiv Ruparelia, the son of property mogul, Sudhir Ruparelia, for his contribution to this cause.
“We were amazed by how Rajiv is running the Ruparelia Group of Companies. The only way we can thank him is through this award,” Ben Ssebuguzi, the team leader YPR, said.
Rajiv welcomed the initiative and made a case for obtaining more awards after revealing the group’s future plans towards fighting unemployment through introducing transactions through a web portal and building a smart car park to utilise the expensive but little land available to them in Kampala.
“We have changed our rent payment from dollars to Shillings and that has smoothened business in our downtown arcades. But now we plan to have offices that youth can rent at between Shs600,000 to Shs800,000 to run their businesses,” Rajiv said, adding. “My advice to youth is start small and grow.”
