It is official that the Uganda Tourism Board deputy CEO John Ssempebwa is now a movie producer. This came by surprise when he announced that he is the brains behind Final Flames of the Uganda Martyrs. The movie whose storyline revolves around the life and history of the Uganda Martyrs will be premiered at the end of this month at Theatre La Bonita.
When we spoke to Ssempebwa, he said following the low number of tourists visiting the country, he thought he would come up with another strategy of raising the number and that is through film. “When you produce a film that is not on point, no one will be interested in finding out details about it. But when you shoot a film that sells the country, you will get a big number of people coming in to see if what they saw in the movie is really true,” Ssempebwa said.
He added that Americans are not the best film producers but just because they are real and love their country. Most of the parts of the movie were shot in Kalangala and directed by Phillip Luswata.
