On Monday, singer Bobi Wine made his first trip to Karamoja region. Yes, Bobi travelled the 11-hour journey just to do charity. Singer Chameleone is the other big star to have visited Karamoja in the recent past. On return, Chameleone held a Shs1m concert at the Kampala Serena Hotel and he promised that he would use the proceeds to erect boreholes in Karamoja region.
Late last year, however, elders from Karamoja castigated the Wale Wale singer for making empty promises after he failed to deliver.
Well, Bobi was taken to Karamojja by Viva con Agua – an NGO that aims at creating awareness on water, sanitation and hygiene issues and generating funds for clean water projects.
A rather excited Bobi took to his social media and explained how he had cancelled a trip to Karamojja because a promoter wasn’t paying enough, but had now returned at no cost. During his stay in Karamoja, the Ghetto president met with artistes from the area, held workshops, visited water and sanitation projects in the area, visited a primary school and gave a word of encouragement to the students.
Then Bobi, together with other entertainers that included dancers from The Breakdance project crew, held a major concert at Moroto Boma Grounds. And you won’t believe how much entry to the concert went for; Shs200 for children and Shs500 for adults. Yes, Uganda shillings!
However, even then, all proceeds went back to supporting the Viva con Agua water and sanitation projects.
All this happened on Tuesday, which was World Water Day!
