Hanging with deweyi: Morris Bwogere and Aidah Buteme have been keeping track of Jaq Deweyi to ask her some burning questions. Sqoop linked them up with the artiste and KFM Morning Breakfast show presenter. She answered all of their burning questions just the way they expected her to.
Hi Jaq. What are you passionate about?
I am passionate about everything that gives me peace and happiness. Besides that, success and hardwork get me going.
What is your greatest strength?
My family. Whenever I feel depressed, they are always there to provide love and care. Without my family, I do not think I can live.
What is the luckiest thing that has happened in your life?
I think being blessed with the talent to sing and be a radio presenter at the same time.
If you are to travel back in time, what is that moment you would look back at and cherish?
I would travel back to my Senior Two. That is the period I got saved, it is the first time I enrolled into the school choir and that is the time I wrote my first song You Gonna Sing Someday which up to now I haven’t released because I believe it is not yet time.
Between the big and little things that happen in life, what do you treasure most?
The little things because they are the ones that count. We all start small whether in business, career and everything else.
What are you saving up for?
I am saving for my career. Music is much more than audio and video. You need to promote it so that it reaches a wide range of your fans. I want to get to a point where I have saved enough to sustain my music career.
Do you have a nickname?
No. I am just Jackie Deweyi, but some of my fans call me the ‘Eastern queen’.
What do your parents do for a living?
My mum runs a family estate in Kyebando and my late dad was an orthopaedic technologist.
What is the best gift you have received so far?
That would be my introduction suitcase. Everything in it was personalised.
What is your dream vacation?
Anywhere that gives me peace and space.
Where do you find your happy space?
On air. I feel nice communicating with my listeners. It relieves my stress. The radio is my comfort zone.
Do you have any special dish?
Yes. I love matooke and g-nuts.
What is that one job you would never do?
I would never do prostitution.
What type of make up do you apply?
Josephine Nakafeero does my make-up. But when it is not serious, I apply some foundation, Vaseline, lip balm, maroon lipstick and eye-shadow. Those are the things that do not miss out in my bag.
What tribe are you?
I am a Mugisu.
And your husband?
He is a Muganda and his name is Nsubuga.
What do you love more? Working in the night or during the day?
I don’t mind both. My first show was in the night. I used to feel uncomfortable in the beginning but when I got used, it became part of me and when I was switched to morning, I faced the same problem because I am the kind of person who hates waking up early, but as time went by, I became accustomed to it.
Were you close with your mum growing up?
My mum and I are so close. We are best friends. She confides in me and so do I in her. In fact, she is more than a mother to me.
