Their rift stole headlines in most media outlets simply because the matter involved an artiste and mainly because she cried for the IGP’s intervention in her case on social media but the latest we have is that both the accused and the accuser jubilated after the Chief Magistrate dismissed their case earlier today.
We are talking about city tycoon, Sulaiman Kabangala (SK) Mbuga whose assault charges against girlfriend Leila Kayondo, a local artiste have been dropped by Makindye Chief Magistrate, Richard Mafabi.
The Magistrate acceded with the Memorandum of Understanding between SK Mbuga and his lover, Leila Kayondo in which, Leila requested court to drop the assault charges she had opened up against Mbuga.
While delivering his ruling, Mafabi based his ruling on Sec 160 of the Magistrates Court Act which gives the magistrates court the authority to drop cases like assault after considering a number of issues. He revealed that the Memorandum of Understanding presented by defense counsel, Kenneth Paul Kakande proved beyond reasonable doubt that the complainant who is the major witness in this matter reconciled with her lover (accused) and under no influence or pressure from anybody.
“The complainant filed an additional statement for withdrawing the charges against the accused whom she addressed in court as her husband. As the matter stands, it shows that they have reached an ultimate point of reconciliation. Therefore court consents with the Memorandum of Understanding and sets the accused free,” He ruled.
The two love birds (Mbuga and Leila) who were seated next to each in court jubilated and hugged as soon as the ruling was passed and immediately drove away in a posh Mercedes Benz that had been waiting outside court.
