Fashion tip : The cape

fash

The cape: Lupita may have rocked it on the red carpet two years ago, but the cape seems to finally find its way on the red carpet. It’s classy and gives you confidence.
Thanks to Kenyan actress Lupita Nyongo, the cape has slowly but surely found its way into red carpet favourites. The actress rocked the Ralph Lauren red number at the Golden Globes back in 2014.
Straight into 2016, every leading lady in Hollywood and even some fashionistas here in Kampala have mastered the art of the cape. It is actually safe to say this is the new trail.
This fashion trend, for the red carpet in particular, can be quite the hit if it is a perfect fit and well tailored.
For starters, always ensure that you come up with the right style of dress or jumpsuit to fit your cape, depending on what look you are aiming for.
You could decide to have the cape detachable, as this will enable you wear the look more than once, in a whole different way.
Unless you want the cape’s hem to end exactly below your dress line, try to keep it as light as possible. Remember, the aim of the cape is to compliment your outfit, not to make it heavier.
The other obvious detail is to keep the cape the same shade as your outfit. Unless you are aiming to have a stage costume, then the colours should always be the same.
Although there are a few pieces that you may find in shops in Kampala with the cape already attached on, I would highly recommend that you have it custom made, for proper fitting and a great final look.
