Promoter Suudi Lukwago is not a happy man; besides being denied access to Busy Signal during his visit last week, the promoter spent Friday night in the coolers at CPS.
Suudi’s arrest came after a one Sheila (singer Big Eye’s partner) reported a case of fraud against the promoter. Sheila claimed she had paid Suudi to get Busy Signal to attend a meet and greet party at Club Venom and for another show at Resort Beach on Sunday.
However, while Signal turned up for the meet and greet party, the Resort Beach show didn’t happen.
But in his defence, Suudi claimed, Sheila failed to come good on their contract that demanded she paid an extra $30,000 (about Shs102m) for the beach show.
Suudi, who was released on police bond the next day, said he had challenged Sheila to prove to police that she had paid him for the beach show and she failed.
And earlier this week, Suudi called us and told us that he is dragging promoter Bob Kasenene of BK Afrobeat to court. “I had paid Busy Signal $ 20,000 (about 68m) of the $35, 000 we had agreed for a performance in Uganda. BK expressed interest in buying the show; we agreed that he would pay the $15,000 balance to Signal and then pay me the $20,000 plus booking agency fees. BK later said he would pay me after the concert and we also agreed that I would earn my booking fees through organising a meet and greet party for Signal,” Suudi narrated.
However, Suudi said he has not been paid the $20,000 and that promoter BK went ahead and sabotaged the meet and greet arrangement when they revealed it to Busy Signal’s team, who demanded for the money.
“I’m going to pursue litigative measures against BK for the money I gave him to bring Busy Signal. Criminal action is also an option. I have asked my lawyers to enforce this,” Suudi told us.
Suudi said he wants BK to pay him about Shs130m.
