Tororo. Police in Tororo District arrested local artiste Butcherman, aka Mark Bugembe, for allegedly obtaining money by false pretence from a local music promoter.
The police spokesperson for Bukedi region, Mr Michael Odongo, said Butcherman was arrested at around 2am on Friday from Queens Palace Malaba, where he had been hired by Face of Tororo Foundation for a music concert.
He said the arrest followed a pending case filed by a local promoter, Mr Rahim Mukungu Babu, against Butcherman, who accuses the singer of failing to perform on Iddi Day, about two months ago, at Lwakhakha border point in Manafwa District. Police said the promoter alleged that he advanced Butcherman Shs700,000 as part payment for the concert but did not turn up for the show.
Mr Odongo said Butcherman had been elusive from the police until Thursday when the complainant tipped them of his presence in Tororo.
He said the police would charge him with obtaining money by false pretence.
Mr Babu told Sunday Monitor that after failing to perform in Lwakhakha, the artiste promised to organise another show to compensate the flopped one but he did not honour his commitment.
He claimed Butcherman owes him Shs3.6m, which includes expenses on hiring the venue, transport and advertisement.
At Tororo Police Station, Butcherman acknowledged receipt of Shs700,000 advanced to him and promised to compensate the complainant with two shows.
