The much anticipated show by Jamaican stars Busy Signal and Konshens last Friday, can best be described as a fair do. Revellers exhibited high enthusiasm about the concert, as they started lining up at Lugogo Cricket Oval as early as 4pm.
At a few minutes past 9pm, Konshens stepped on stage amid wild cheers. Adorned in a camouflage jacket, tight black jeans and a black T-shirt, he rocked the crowd for over an hour and half. The crowd sang along, screamed and danced as he performed hits like Couple Up, Gal a Bubble, The Realest Song, Do Sum’n, Bounce, Simple Song, and many more.
However, Konshens’ performance was interrupted by a sound glitch as the machines went off for about 10 minutes, killing the mood of both the performer and the revellers.
When the sound was fixed, Konshens ordered for lights to be switched off as he introduced his “Ugandan friend” Jose Chameleone on stage. Chameleone who did Gimme Gimme and Wale Wale can as well claim bragging rights for restoring the hype of the concert.
After Konshens, revellers were surprised when one of the concert organisers Balam Barugahare, introduced ruling party (NRM) Secretary General, Justine Kasule Lumumba on stage to deliver a message from President Musveni who had been invited to be chief guest at the show.
Lumumba received wild cheers when she said the president had okayed the concert to go on till 2am, contrary to Kampala City Council Authority regulations that state that concerts should be done by midnight. And after asking the crowd to vote President Museveni in the coming elections, Lumumba invited the two visiting Jamaican artistes on stage to thank them on behalf of the president, but they were reluctant. A couple of minutes later after organisers pleading with the stars, Konshens and Chameleone came on stage and had a handshake with Lumumba.
Konshens then took on the emceeing duties as he asked everyone to clear the stage and he asked Ugandans to make some noise and show some love to Busy Signal. The two are Pepsi ambassadors back in Jamaica, little wonder their show was bankrolled by the soft drink brand.
And just like Konshens, Signal spoke to the ladies, “I’m really anticipating to get married in Uganda. I feel at home whenever I’m in Uganda and I wanna marry one of these beautiful Ugandan ladies,” he said, attracting deafening cheers mostly from female fans. Although most people didn’t relate to the songs he started with, Busy Signal made sure his energetic performance stood above everything. And when he finally introduced his Night Shift hit, it was evident that he had pressed a familiar button, as the crowd sang along. He went on to do Watch Out Fi Dis, Come Over, One More Night, Bedroom Bully, Reggae Music Again and The Gambler.
