Earlier this week, Jose Chameleone was announced as the other Ugandan nominee in this year’s MTV Africa Music Awards (Mamas). He joined fellow veteran and on and off rival Bebe Cool who was nominated under the Video of the Year category. Chameleone is up for the Evolutionary Award.
According to MTV Base Africa, the Mama Evolution category comprises of the most iconic and influential African artistes of the past decade. The award category seeks to honour established artistes who have made an indelible mark on the African and global music culture.
The Wale Wale singer is competing with top continental artistes like 2Face (Nigeria), Anselmo Ralph (Angola), Asa (Nigeria), Black Coffee (South Africa), D’Banj (Nigeria), Fally Ipupa (DRC), HHP (South Africa), P-Square (Nigeria) and Samini (Ghana).
However, on learning about the news, Chameleone, just like Bebe Cool and Kenzo who earlier this week won a BET award, echoed a message asking Ugandans to come together for the cause. “I urge my fans to vote for Uganda; that’s most important. Let’s join hands and vote for Chameleone and Bebe Cool in their respective categories and bring the honour home. Even Kenzo’s fans should not rest, the glory is for our mother nation,” Chameleone told us.
