v1

Victoria University on Saturday held its inaugural Vacists Social Media Challenge at its main campus, along Jinja Road.

The challenge that attracted over 35 schools, saw students in the S6 vacation debate on social media platforms most especially WhatsApp, Facebook and YouTube. The topics varied from whether social media platforms are helpful to how harmful they are. Questions such as, “Does social media increase social interaction and connections? Are social networking sites disasters spoiling children and nothing more than tools for those who love themselves and Internet trolls?” were posed.
The teenagers that were bundled in six groups, consisting of over 10 debaters faced each other in a heated, productive and informative debate that saw the winners walk away with a cash prize of Shs1m and certificates.
President Museveni recently visited Victoria University where he expressed his satisfaction with the institution’s facilities and courses, which he said will go a long way in empowering students with skills needed in today’s market.
