Every now and then, one gets a feeling of “what was I doing this time last year?” Just like the name suggests, Timehop is an app that lets the user become a kind of Doc Brown, travelling back in time to see exactly what they were up to. It works by hooking into your social media accounts, gaining access to photos and updates on Twitter, Foursquare, Facebook, flickr, and your device’s Camera Roll.
While one may think this is a major invasion into their social media history, if they are willing to give it a go, the results are very interesting. Of course, the vast majority of it will be trivial and pointless, but what you get back depends very much on what one put in way back when. The app delves back over a few years and lets you reminisce without any fiddling. The users are presented with photos, status updates and more under clearly labelled categories from one year ago, two years ago and so on. There is even an indication of the day of the week and the temperature at the time so you will know that this time last year you were baking hot and now it’s freezing. As one would expect, it takes a little while to set up, granting the app access to all your various profiles, but if you like to delve into the past, it’s a good indication of how far you’ve come.
