As his Sitya Loss hit began to go viral, singer Eddy Kenzo said he was on his way to the BET Awards. We all regarded Kenzo as a big dreamer; but our views were only human. The great Allah that Kenzo has always thanked in his media interviews, has been at work. And he saw Kenzo’s dreams through on Monday.
Kenzo is the second Ugandan singer to be nominated in the prestigious global BET Awards. Two years ago, Radio & Weasel made history as the first Ugandan singers ever to get a BET nod.
Kenzo’s nod was simply a matter of time; especially after global trendsetters in the music and entertainment industry like P Diddy, Ellen Degeneres, as well as sports stars like Ronaldinho shared Sitya Loss on their social media pages.
It was only deserving for Kenzo to make history as one of the nominees in BET’s newly introduced category, the first ever Viewer’s Choice Best International category.
According to BET Africa, this category is different from the Best international Act where Radio & Weasel were nominated. “This is a brand new category. This is a new fan-voted category celebrating rising stars across the channel’s international footprint.”
To vote for Kenzo, one has to go to the BET site or social media platforms and hashtag #IPick followed by Eddy (#IPickEddy).
And speaking about voting, Kenzo has called upon all his fans and wellwishers not to just vote for Kenzo, but to vote for Uganda.
“My brother Bebe Cool is also nominated in the MTV Awards, so as you vote for Kenzo in the BETs, also drop a vote for Bebe Cool. Your votes could help Uganda win big! We might both bring the awards home,” Kenzo said.
The awards will be simulcast on BET (channel 129) & BET2 (channel 135) on DSTV on June 30.
