Veteran fashion designer, Santa Anzo, cannot stop smiling, for once again, the fashion house Arapapa is set to shine, this time in South Africa. Word reaching us is that Arapapa has been invited to represent Uganda at the prestigious African Month fashion collective by the South African republic that will take place at the Museum of African Design in Johannesburg on May 27. The event that is organised by the Department of Arts and Culture (DAC) in association with African Fashion international will feature top African brands. An excited Anzo said the colours used in her showcase will “capture the heartbeat of the African content as each country has its national colours fully featured,” to resonate with the overall theme “We are Africa”. “This is a great testament that fashion is now a conversation of utmost urgency in Africa….a solution to unemployment and a means to launch Africa as a producer of quality goods other than a mere consumer. For me, this means that it’s just a matter of time before African fashion brands take on the world. The African Month intervention is meant to strengthen socio-cultural intervention, economic integration and political integration.
