Mentored by JKazoora, Isaac is fast becoming one of the top city emcees. He has featured on quite a number of events, notably the Airtel sing-for-cash promotions. He tell us more about his career.
What stage name do you use?
I use Mc Zack. It is more appealing than my real names.
For how long have you been emceeing?
I have been doing this since 2009.
How do you come up with all the words when emceeing?
I first study the kind of audience I’m to host an event for, relate to them and find out exactly what will keep them on their feet. As an emcee, your job is to entertain the audience.
Which places have you emceed at since you started out?
Buddies Bar, Asylum, Koko Bar, Rouge, 9 Degrees, Blu Ice, Nirvana, De Posh and Bubbles Express.
How much do you charge at concerts, bars and parties?
That depends on the terms and conditions we discuss with the organiser but usually, I charge Shs1m for a concert. For private shows and bars, we negotiate and come to an understanding.
Where did you learn emceeing from?
I leant from JKazoora. He mentored me to become an emcee and I also consider him my inspiration.
What is the role of the emcee at a function?
An emcee is supposed to be the main person to preside over a function, keep the crowd updated on what is happening, keep them entertained and is the link between different people a the function.
Is there appropriate attire an emcee is supposed to wear?
That depends on the event you are handling. If it’s a corporate function, it’s advisable to put on a suit, if it’s a bar event, then casual can do. Usually you have to be on point in in terms of dressing, because the function rotates around you.
What qualities should good emcees have?
He should have a commanding voice, be creative, smart and have the energy to hype the crowd. You are also supposed to be bold.
