This flick had a lot of potential to be captivating but it ended up being lukewarm. At some point, I couldn’t see where the movie was headed and that is not because the script is too good, it is because there are so many unnecessary scenes. The movie is about a lawyer, Counsellor (Michael Fassbender) whose deteriorating financial status gets him into a bad deal with Reiner (Javier Bardem) and Westray (Brad Pitt) as middle men. When things go wrong, a couple of other people are introduced in the movie to give advice to the counsellor but none of them was a necessary addition.
Reiner has a smart and heartless thug for a girlfriend Malkina (Cameron Diaz). She hires people to sabotage the counsellor’s plan so that she gets the money after he had done the hard work. Determined to kill anyone in her way, Malkina finds a bunch of assassins who kill by slitting off heads with wires. Not even counsellor’s sweet girlfriend Laura (Penelope Cruz) and friend to Malkina will be spared if she dares get in between Malkina and the money.
One by one, she eliminates the people starting with her sweetheart Reiner. A hot blonde helps her wipe out Westray and for the counsellor, she has the luxury to choose between going after him or Laura which is equivalent to going after his heart. As evil as she is, Malkina is impressive in this, she is quite something, I looked forward to scenes in which she appeared. Some reviewers think this is a really great movie but from my end, watch it if there is nothing else to do.
