Parliament information officer declares bid for Mbale mayoral seat

Untitled-1
Like they say, once a journalist, always a journalist, so even Charles Bukuwa, the Information Officer at Parliament, insists he is a journalist that holds an office at Parliament.
The former Dembe FM reporter has decided to follow in the shoes of current Dembe FM news boss- Hadijja Mwanje, who recently declared her intentions to contest for the Masaka Woman MP seat next year.
Although he sits at Parliament, Bukuwa will not be gunning for a parliamentary seat. The towering fellow has instead opted to contest to be a mayor of his home town, Mbale. Bukuwa told us that he has been doing ground work and feels fit to take on current mayor FDC’s Muzamiru Zandya.
We eavesdropped on a conversation as Bukuwa discussed a deal with Fun Factory comedians Hannington Bugingo and  Richard Tuwangye during the grand opening of the new Madiba’s bar in Kiwatule on Good Friday as he struck a deal with them to join his campaign trail.
Bukuwa assured the comedians that he stands high chances since he will be riding on his late father, the late Charles Bukuwa senior’s name. Apparently the late Bukuwa was a prominent businessman and politician in the 1960s and 70s.
Bukuwa, who made it clear that he intends to stand as an independent, took time to pour out a bit of his manifesto to the comedians: “I intend to change the face of the municipality and take it back to its glory days. My dream has always been to fight for Mbale to attain city status. I know it won’t come easy, but I am ready for the fight,” Bukuwa said.
Given his time around politicians, Bukuwa seems to have learnt quite a lot and we shall only wait to see what comes out of the ballot come 2016. For now, all the best Charles Bukuwa.
