My son is innocent, Mzee Mayanja insists

Singer Jose Chameleone’s father Mzee Gerald Mayanja has come out and declared his son innocent even after the DPP resurrected murder charges against him. Speaking during an exclusive telephone chat, Mr Mayanja told us that while he was that conversant with court procedures, he is sure that the police and the DPP’s office had exhausted all available evidence before they declared his son an innocent man previously.
“Personally, I feel the case was thoroughly investigated and all available evidence was fully examined and judgement was passed that Joseph was an innocent man. That case was revisited thrice! So I can only wait as anybody else to see what new evidence the DPP has that pushed him to resurrect the case,” Mzee Mayanja told us.
Chameleone was at the receiving end of bad publicity after different tabloids speculated he was headed for Luzira prison after the DPP, Mike Chibita, ordered that the Chameleone-Karamagi file be re-opened following the evidence that was provided by the late Karamagi’s father, Major Benedict Kyamanywa, who had been in Somalia on official duty when the case was closed.
The Wale Wale singer’s outspoken father also reminded us that Chameleone was the first to file a case of “trespass” after he found Karamagi (RIP) in his compound, “but when death occurred, this case became too small!”
During the same conversation, Mzee Mayanja rubbished rumours that he had sat a meeting at his house in Seguku and engaged other family members on a way forward about the new developments in the murder case against his son.
“Why would we sit a meeting? What can we do? Like I told you, at this stage, all we can do is look on and wait for the DPP’s next action. As a family, there’s nothing much we can do apart from being by Joseph,”Mzee Mayanja told us.
Meanwhile, the new developments didn’t deter Chameleone from flying to Nairobi for the Maisha Super Star project; and he did so without any security hindrances.
