Next Friday, all roads will lead to Kampala Serena Hotel for the commemoration of one of Uganda’s biggest artistes of all time- Elly Sharma Wamala.
The concert, which is being organised by the Elly Wamala Estate, as well as friends and fans, got a financial injection from Nile Special Beer, the flagship brand of Nile Breweries Limited.
A few months back, a few artistes were given a green light to redo some of the late Wamala’s songs ahead of his 10th year death anniversary.
While speaking on behalf of the Elly Wamala Estate, the late singer’s daughter, Gertrude Wamala Karugaba said the move was aimed at sharing her late father’s music with younger Ugandans who did not get to hear him or see him perform.
Speaking during the unveiling of the concert earlier this week, Ms Lydia Wamala, another daughter to the late singer, said the concert is a celebration of Wamala’s lifelong commitment to knowledge gathering and sharing, which, he mainly did through his songs.”
Timothy Kayondo, the Nile Special brand manager, said the concert is a toast to a true champion. “Elly Wamala was a musician of distinguished qualities, a fact that earned him several awards during his career.” Kayondo said the concert resonates well with Nile Special brand that has also won several international awards over the period of 50-years.
Afrigo band, Radio and Weasel, Mesach Semakula, Irene Namubiru, Bobi Wine, Irene Ntale, Pr Wilson Bugembe and Rema among others have been lined up to perform at the concert.
Tickets to the concert will be going for Shs100K per person and Shs2m for a table.
