East African beauty queens here for Mavuno Yetu

miss

Firstly, allow us to congratulate Leah Kalanguka, not upon winning the Miss Uganda crown, but overcoming the social media criticism that swung her way on being announced winner!
The soft-spoken and intelligent Kalanguka was at our headquarters in Namuwongo on Tuesday morning and despite the social media criticism, Monitor Publications employees rushed to have a photo opportunity with the beauty.
But Kalanguka also had a surprise for us; she came along with two other beauty queens; Miss Rwanda Akiwaco Colombe and Miss Tanzania Lilian Kamazima!
The beauty queens, including those from Burundi and Kenya are in the country for the third edition of The East African Harvest – Mavuno Yetu event due this evening at the Lake Victoria Serena Resort.
The words Mavuno Yetu are Swahili words for ‘celebration of our culture.’ The celebration will be characterised by a cultural night with a hearty banquet, cultural dances and fashion showcase by Santa Anzo of Arapapa as well as Tanzanian designer Mustafa Hasan Ali. Besides our just-concluded beauty pageant that majorly focused on agriculture, Leah and her counterparts will bring the ‘beauty with a purpose’ ideology to life as they promote fashion, food, music, drinks and the general culture of the East African region.
Apparently, each beauty queen will work hand-in-hand with chefs from her respective country to prepare the signature dishes of their respective countries.
To further boost the event, the resort will give a memorable offer of $ 150 (about Shs400,000) for night per room- single or double; breakfast and taxes inclusive!
