new look: With Bobi’s One Love Beach looking fresh, all is set for tomorrow’s concert, where men will be separated from the boys. Among artistes expected to perform are Wilson Bugembe, Jose Chameleone, GoodLyf, and Judith Babirye.
When was the last time you went to One love Beach? Well, do not be surprised if you find more trees, flowers, grass, and demarcated walk-ways. You may also see people playing pool and enjoying boat rides, and do not conclude that the place was sold to an investor – No, it has just been given a facelift.
The 28-acre beach owned by self-proclaimed Ghetto President Bobi Wine (Robert Kyagulanyi) and his wife Barbie, will be the venue for the Size Yooo concert tomorrow. An additional 14 acres were recently acquired for expansion.
Barbie says the major reason for the revamp was to create a place where people can go and feel like they are in their compound, away from the noise and pollution of the city.
“The warmth of the people around here is exceptional and this place makes you feel like sleeping, so you are free to come, lay down and sleep,” Barbie says.
Bobi says he is fully-prepared for the show and assures fans of excitement and a fun-filled day.
“Manya Size Yoo is actually the theme. It is good to know your size in everything. Honestly, we have competition. We cannot run away from that, though on my side, it is healthy competition. As artistes, we keep doing things. I was the first local artiste to hold a concert at Lugogo Cricket Oval and Jose Chameleone also held one there and then Bebe Cool did one at Kampala Serena Hotel. This year my resolution was not to hire a venue. We wanted to show size, that we have a big venue where we can all be happy,” Bobi explains.
He cheekily adds that Bebe Cool recently sang three of his songs and he is still contemplating on inviting him for tomorrow’s show.
“I have so many artiste friends who have confirmed their presence to perform, including Pastor Wilson Bugembe, Jose Chameleone, GoodLyf, Judith Babirye, even Bebe Cool wants to come but we are yet to give him an answer,” the artiste behind songs like Time Bomb, Bwekwaso, Size Yoo, adds. Entrance to the show is 5k for children, 10k for ordinary tickets for adults, 20k for VIP tickets and 50k for VVIP tickets.
Security is a big concern at One Love Beach, especially whenever shows are held there, but Bobi has assured that this time security is well taken care of.
“I am hosting Afande Kaweesi himself (Andrew Felix Kaweesi, and many other dignitaries. We hope to have about 500 police officers, military police and my own security of fellow boxers. The show kicks off in the morning with boat races, at about 10am,” the Firebase Crew CEO assures.
The stage performances will kick off at 3pm. Bobi says he will perform at 8pm. One Love Beach is located along the Kampala-Entebbe highway. The road is dusty for now but will soon be tarmacked.
All beers go for 4k while sodas and water go for 2k. Entrance to the beach on other days, when there are no shows, is 2k. Fish costs between 10k and 25k, depending on the size.
