Everyone that attended this year’s Nile Gold Jazz Safari shall agree with us that Joe Thomas rocked. However, he also left so many broken hearts in form of people that turned up eager to meet and rub shoulders with him at Guvnor, where he was a no-show.
The Jazz Safari Meet & Greet party was scheduled for last Wednesday at Guvnor. It was majorly an invite affair, but uninvited guests parted with Shs30,000 to get a chance to rub shoulders with the R’nB star.
By 8.30pm, a crowd which mostly comprised of ladies, queued up and paid hoping to get upclose with Joe. However, up to 11pm, only Norman Brown and his team had showed up and occupied the area reserved for the artistes.
At midnight, Joe was still nowhere to be seen. It was the same story at Zone 7, the following day (Thursday), where Joe was supposed to meet with Rotarians and other fans that had parted with Shs50,000 to be part of the Rotary Cocktail event.
While the organisers did not come out clearly on why Joe failed to attend both events, we were able to dig deep from within Joe’s crew and we bring you the reason why the I Wanna Know singer didn’t get to rub shoulders with his fans.
We have it on good authority, that when he went for sound check, Joe had most of his new songs off his recently released Bridges album fill up his play list. The Ugandan team opened up to Joe and told him his fans here were more acquainted with his old songs. At first Joe was hesitant and insisted that that was the playlist he had rehearsed with his band. But after giving it a thought, Joe asked the Ugandans for a list of songs the fans would enjoy, which they drafted for him.
The smooth-voiced star then decided to concentrate on rehearsing the new playlist to perfection instead of going for the Meet & Greet parties. But while it irked so many, those that attended the concert were happy with Joe’s performance because he managed to perform so many songs that we knew.
