The 2014 Miss Tourism beauty pageant has reached its climax with the finale taking place today at Kampala Serena Hotel. There are nine girls left; Olivia Adoch, Pearl Brenda Asasira, Janat Muzito, Brenda Ankunda, Roberta Jean Marie, Jane Murungi, Rehema Najjengo, Patricia Ntale and Nora Atim. The winner will drive home in a brand new Vitz, besides having to prepare for Miss Tourism International slated for later this year in Malaysia.
The finalists – chosen from a pool of 17 – were confirmed after a four-hour nerve-wrecking elimination test presided over by Minister of Tourism Maria Mutagamba on Saturday. “I want to promise Ugandans a great show on Friday because I trust the team has a great line-up of finalists,” said Mutagamba. The girls were put on the spot to talk about their cultures and answer questions about Uganda’s tourism. This year’s Miss Tourism was decentralised, with 11 different tourism clusters around the country organising a preliminary beauty pageant. The top two girls from each cluster were then sent to Kampala for boot camp. The finale will also feature last year’s top 10 finalists doing a musical act. A number of artistes have also been lined-up to perform. Entrance is 30k for students, 100k for ordinary tickets and 200 for VIP and a table of eight goes for 2m. It starts at 8pm-10pm.
