Facebook officially verifies Flavia’s page

You have heard of cases where celebrities’ Facebook accounts have been hacked into and the hackers have made weird posts or have sent people texts asking for money.
Facebook heard celebrities cries and acted upon them. Indeed, now all popular brands and public figures will have to be verified by Facebook and will have a blue badge next to their profiles to prove they are the genuine pages.
The first public figure to be verified by Facebook in Uganda was President Yoweri Museveni and he was followed by Capital FM and Channel O VJ Flavia Tumusiime.
Flavia told us that her line of work has put her in the spotlight making her a target for malicious people who want to feed off her fame.
“I have been exposed to scams and rumours that have been floating around,” Flavia said.
Facebook verification is aimed at fixing the identity issue for personalities and brands. And by offering instant credibility, it automatically separates the public figure from anyone who might be trying to use their brand name maliciously.
“The blue badge next to my profile name will help eliminate confusion for friends, business partners and fans who couldn’t tell the official page from the fake ones.”
There are millions of people connected to public figures like athletes, musicians, political and religious leaders, actors and other influencers on Facebook. The social networking website is currently in the process of verifying so many other celebrity pages.
