The Kampala City Festival, now entering its third year, is no doubt enjoying unprecedented success. If the huge audiences that attended last year’s edition (rumoured to be in excess of 300,000) then the number of corporates lining up to sponsor the carnival is a sure indicator of this success. As with all other big events, the city’s big brands are lining up to take centre space as lead sponsors. The event that initially didn’t attract a lot of corporate sponsorships as many brands avoided the then politics at City Hall, has seen new players try to come in to outdo those brands that supported it from the very start such as Bell Lager and Ruparelia Group and thus made it what it is today.
Bell Lager has sunk in most money this year with a cash injection of Shs150m. Ruparelia group through Crane Bank announced a sponsorship package of Shs100m. Huawei, Airtel and MTN have also joined in with Shs100m each.
