We have it on good authority that singer Kalifah Aganaga is set to resume studies at Makerere University this August.
According to a source, Kalifah diverted his tuition fees (about Shs800,000) and used it to shoot his first music video for his Mina Konda hit. This was way back in 2011 and it was during his random trips to UBC where he had gone to promote his new video that he met his current promoter Emma Carlos.
Three years later, Kalifah has hussled his way up and he has not dropped his dream to excel academically. Earlier this week, Kalifah picked his admission forms from the Music, Dance and Drama department.
Dropping out of the school is a disease that ate into most artistes in Uganda; singers like Bebe Cool, Chameleone, Weasel, Juliana Kanyomozi, Miki Wine and AK 47, all didn’t bother looking any further than A -Level education.
But a few like Henry Tigan, Rema Namakula and Leila Kayondo stuck to their guns and attained degrees. We also heard that Irene Namubiru gave it try by pursuing a degree in business studies at Cavendish University, but our sources at the Nsambya-based University tell us that she ceased to be a regular at the campus.
On the other hand, when we bumped into an excited Kalifah, he told us that he is determined to see his dream of attaining a university degree become a reality, especially now that he can afford to pay for his tuition and other necessities.
