Yes, Congolese legendary singer, Antoine Christophe Agbepa Mumba a.k.a. Koffi Olomide is expected to jet into town next week. The Lingala legend will be in Kampala for a couple of charity activities and a music concert.
Koffi will be the headlining artiste at a charity concert organised by Rotary Uganda, that recently launched a campaign to raise Shs1.5b for construction of a first private blood bank in the country.
Koffi Olomidde will share the stage with Jose Chameleone, Rema Namakula and Grace Nakimera in the concert dubbed Magic of Red Music Concert.
According to Emmanuel Katongole, the district governor of Rotary District 9211, the event is one of the many methods Rotary Uganda is employing to mobilise funds. “Our mission is to address the intermittent blood supply. Nakasero Blood Bank is not enough to collect and handle all the blood needed for emergencies,” Katongole said.
Statistics show that the Uganda Blood Transfusion Services only collects 230,000 units of bloods out of the 300,000 units recommended by the World Health Organisation due to logistical challenges. Katongole says as Rotarians from Uganda and Tanzania, they started fundraising for over Shs1.5b to build a second private blood bank at Mengo Hospital.
Katongole said so far, Shs350m has been realised. And it’s on that note that the club teamed up with Koffi Olomide to stage a concert due next Friday April 25 at the Lugogo Cricket Oval, to help fundraise more funds for the project.
Entrance to the concert will be Shs30,000 for bronze, Shs100, 000 for Silver and Shs300,000 for Gold. There are also corporate tables going for between Shs2.5m and Shs10m.
