The BTAs that happen every first term holiday are back and this time round with quite some surprises and changes. For starters, this year’s BTAs have been dubbed Buzz Teeniez Awards Voltage edition with several interesting nominees.
Although he is still looked at as an upcoming artiste by a big number of music lovers, singer Khalifa Aganaga received a nod in the top Male artiste category against big names like Bebe Cool, Mowzey Radio & Weasel and rapper Mun G.
The best female category also came up with some surprises as household names like Juliana and Iryn Namubiru are not on the list. Cindy will be up against newcomers including Fille, Rema and Irene Ntale.
This year’s edition is also set to experience a major change in selection of the disc spinner to win the best DJ accolade. “We shall line up all the four nominated DJs and we get them to battle in-front of the crowd and we shall conduct the voting via a digital platform in real time. This will be very exciting for the fans but also will separate the real Djs from the pretenders,” said Julius Kyazze, the CEO Buzz of Media, the organisers of BTAs.
According to Julius, such a decision was reached after DJ Shiru repeatedly emerged the single winner of this award in the recent several years. This year’s nominees are DJ Mark, DJ Aludah, DJ Shiru and DJ Roja.
“His fellow DJs complained and they had actually ganged against him. So we decided to make it fair for both our audience and the other nominees to be voted for live at the event,” Kyazze said.
