Earlier this week, Daily Monitor together with sister brands NTV Uganda and KFM got into a partnership with Kinetic Sports Management to run a five-aside inter-bar soccer tourney. The soccer tournament, which will see patrons from 16 bars battle it out for cash prizes, is slated to kick off in mid-April at the Hockey grounds in Lugogo.
Well, new event firm, Events 256, is not letting bar patrons that are not soccer fans miss out on the fun. The events firm is organising a one-day inter-bar fun rugby tourney come Sunday April 6, at the Kyadondo Rugby grounds.
According to Events 256 Director Eric Omondi, the event is aimed at patrons coming out to celebrate the bars they go to.
“All high end bars will form a team of 20 players, eight of whom will be substitutes. The teams will have both men and women.”
Omondi, however, was quick to downplay any wild imaginations that come to people’s minds when they think of the roughness that comes with rugby. “It is going to be touch rugby, a non-contact version of rugby.”
Omondi explained that they decided to focus on rugby because the rugby crowds are fun loving.
He added that besides the players, each bar will be required to bring their own cheerleaders as well.
“The winning team and the winning cheerleading squad will walk away with several cases of beer and other assorted prizes,” he said.
And after the games, rapper The-Myth and renowned guitarist Myko Ouma will crown the fun day with live performances.
