Being a charity event, you would expect that people would be more than willing to pay more than a paltry Shs3,000 entrance fee.
Well, some people more than willingly paid at last Saturday’s charity 40-40 5-AsideUG soccer gala but not former Cranes skipper David Obua.
The ex-Hearts player cruised to the gate in his sleek white Range Rover Sport with one other person in the car. And on being asked to pay the Shs3,000 entrance fee, the towering athlete put it straight to the girl manning the gates; “I am David Obua,” as he accelerated inside the gate.
Most of the girls at the entrance didn’t know him, so they followed the car and boldly asked, “Which Obua?”
He answered, “Obua the Obua!” and immediately told them not to talk to or follow him!
However, they were also not about to give up as they called a police officer, who was among the security detail, to deal with the man that had refused to pay the entrance fee.
But instead, Obua rained a string of vulgar insults that left everyone in the vicinity speechless. “He walked on to join the rest of the crowd and stayed till late in the evening,” said one of the people at the event.
However, it was hard to miss the commotion and when word went around that Obua had gatecrashed the event, the tweeps took on to Twitter under the hashtag #SomeoneTellObua to castigate the soccer veteran who played for Scottish side Hearts FC at the peak of his career.
By press time, more tweets were coming in, with many questioning if he is still a celebrity, while others equated Saturday’s display to his imprudent demonstration when he threw the Uganda Cranes jersey and walked off the pitch just because he had been substituted.
