What do you do?
I run Multi Maintenance Services Uganda Ltd (MMS). It’s a cleaning company. We do general cleaning for both corporate and domestic work, garbage collection and septic tanks emptying, cleaning roof tiles, mowing, landscaping, fumigation plus cleaning carpets and chairs.

When did you open up this business?
I started it in 2011.

How much did you invest in it?
I invested Shs15m, basically to buy equipment. Some cost me Shs5m while others went for Shs2m and so on. I also bought a service van and used the rest for rent and salaries.

Where did you get the capital to start your business?
I sold my car.

How much is this business worth at the moment?
The business is now worth about Shs25m.

What are your charges?
The prices range according to the companies we work for and the workload. But to clean carpets, we range from Shs16,000 to Shs20,000.

What challenges are you facing doing this kind of business?
Clients don’t pay in time, machine spare parts are hardly available on the market and they are very expensive. Finding genuine equipment is also hard as there is a lot of counterfeits.

How have you benefitted?
I own a car worth Shs10m and I’m building two rental houses in Namugongo.
